Village elders across Nyaribari Chache have a reason to smile after the local Member of Parliament Richard Tong’i said that they will start receiving their monthly allowance in the next financial year.
The MP said that the National government had agreed to set aside funds that will ensure that the elders get compensated for the role they play to link the National government security agencies with the locals at the grassroots levels.
Speaking at his home on Tuesday while meeting with village elders drawn from his constituency the MP said that other leaders have been pushing for the funds which have been actualised and he will ensure all elders receive them.
“The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) is now set to approve a Sh1.2billion budget that will be purposely for the elders to get what they deserve though that will begin in the next financial year,” he added.
The legislator, however, called upon the elders to be calm as the process will take few months and there are procedures that will be followed.
