Police arrest changaa brewers at a past incident [PHOTO/the-star.co.ke]
A Meru court has sentenced a man to 18 months in prison for selling illicit brew.
Martin Kimathi, is said to have been nabbed with 140 litres of changaa at Acre Mbili Village on June 4.
Kimathi was arrested by police and the area chief following a tip off from the public.
Appearing before Principal Magistrate M.K.N Maroro, Kimathi pleaded guilty to the offence but pleaded for leniency.
"I have been selling the illicit brew because I am poor and an orphan,” Kimathi told the court, as quoted by The Star.
He was given an alternative of paying a Sh70,000 fine.
