Villagers from Riakemuma Village, Sameta sub-county in Kisii County have decried a spate of banana theft cases being witnessed in the area.
They are now calling on the local community policing members to intensify security night patrols to apprehend those behind the theft syndicates.
The villagers who talked to this writer in the area disclosed that the suspected thieves took advantage of heavy downpours pounding the region to steal bananas at night since the farmers could not guard their farms while it was raining.
Annah Kerongo is one of the victims whose bananas were recently stolen from her farm at night, only to discover in the following morning when she visited her farm for the routine farm chores.
"Thieves are wreaking havoc in our Village, we are not at peace since there are several banana theft cases being reported in the Village and the neighbourhood during heavy night downpours in the area," stated Kerongo.
Esther Ogega, another victim of the banana theft syndicate out of which she has lost four giant bananas from her farm in a span of two days.
Ogega calls for intensified night vigil and security patrols by community policing members to ensure the perpetrators are nabbed and taken to Law Courts to face the law.
She however, challenged local Villagers to volunteer information to the local law enforcement officers and agents to facilitate investigations into the matter reported in the area.
