Villagers in Mumias East constituency are fleeing their homes following the launch of a General Service Unit (GSU) operation aimed at recovering guns stolen at a local police station.
The seven G3 rifles and over 100 rounds of ammunition were stolen after unknown people raided the Booker police post, beat up the officer manning the establishment before vanishing with the weapons.
Following the incident, a contingent of GSU, Administration Police and Flying Squad officers were deployed in various villages with instructions to recover the guns.
Some villagers from Shitukhumi, Shibale and Mayoni however, complained after they were allegedly harassed by the officers as they descended into people's businesses and homes.
A video circulating online said to have been shot at Shibale shows a lady limping as a result of the injuries the officers inflicted on her.
"They told me to remove my clothes before they beat me up," the lady said.
She claimed the officers hit her in her private parts during the operation.
The video shows blood flowing down her foot.
Bodaboda riders in Mumias town are also said to have been roughed up and beaten.
During the police post raid, the police officer who was manning the police post was beaten and left unconscious.
Area MP Benjamin Washiali condemned the police operation following the incident.
"It is impossible that guns were stolen from Booker police post and hidden around Shibale, some 500m away. I think the officers are not serious in efforts to recover the guns," he told the media.
He called for thorough investigations to be conducted with regard to the incident.
