Speaking to this writer in the area, the affected farmers decried increasing cases of hares invading their crops at night, wreaking havoc to their only reliable food crops during this crop season.

Onyando Mbaka, one of the farmers told this writer that his maize crop farm has been invaded thrice and has lost quite a substantial part of the maize crop to the wild animals which he lamented threatened his family's food security.

Mbaka regretted that, based on the odd hours of the night during which the animals struck and the random nature of their invasion, it made it difficult for the farmers to trap the rodents.

"Farmers are counting losses following the invasion by hares believed to living around tea bushes in our communities. It is difficult to trace the whereabouts of these animals during the day as they could be in their hideouts,” lamented Mbaka.

Mary Onyoni, another farmer from the area also lamented that the hares had wreaked havoc in her farm and she has lost both maize and beans in her mixed farm to the wild animals.

"I am worried over what to do and way-laying the animals at night becomes a risk as they strike in odd hours. This cannot allow me to keep vigil in the farm which is miles away from my homestead," regretted Onyoni.
