They have raised concern that the stray dogs are not only preying on their chicken but that they were also posing a danger to the local community members. Residents feared being bitten and getting infected with rabies.

A section of the villagers challenged public health officers in the area to intensify public awareness campaigns and to educate members of the public on the need to give their dogs rabies shots.

Mary Moraa, a local resident laments that having stray dogs roaming in the local villages is a serious security threat since some of these dogs could be having the dreaded rabies which was dangerous if not treated immediately.

Moses Onchabo, another local resident challenged the local provincial administrators and village headmen to take up the matter and have those whose dogs are roaming in the area face the law.

"If one keeps a dog,he or she should take precautions to ensure that their dogs are tame enough to roam around and have had them treated against rabies. In case they accidentally bite any person it is easier to protect them from contracting rabies," advised Onchabo.
