Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has urged aspirants eying various seats to conduct peaceful campaigns ahead of the August 8 general election.Addressing supporters in Mombasa on Thursday, Awiti, who will vie for Mombasa governor on a Vibrant Democratic Party (VDP) ticket, asked politicians to shun acts that could spark violence during campaigns.The Governor aspirant said peaceful campaigns will guarantee economic stability in the Coast and the country at large.“We (political aspirants) must commit to peaceful campaigns for the sake of the country’s economic stability,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.Awiti said investors are keenly watching the country’s steps ahead of the August polls, and appealed to security agencies to guarantee peace before, during and after the polls.“We need an assurance from the police that security will be heighted as the country prepares to hold election,” he added.Awiti pledged to lead peaceful campaigns anchored on issues and not propaganda.On Tuesday Coast regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa said security will be heightened in the region ahead of polls.Marwa warned politicians who will incite youth to engage in violence saying they will face the full force of the law.
