12 foreign envoys have voiced concern over the weekly protests by opposition Cord against electoral body IEBC.
The envoys said violence will not solve issues regarding the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, and the death of Kenyan citizens during the demos were unnecessary.
“We are deeply concerned by the escalation of violence during the demonstrations in Kenyan cities on May 23 around the future of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. The death of Kenyans citizens were tragic and unnecessary.”
“We urge the government of Kenya to investigate actions of security services and to hold accountable anyone responsible for use of excessive force,” they said in a joint statement.
They urged Kenyans to embrace dialogue and make institutional changes as the Constitution demands.
The envoys include; US Envoy Robert F. Godec, United Kingdom High Commissioner Nic Hailey, Australia High Commissioner John Feake, Belgium Ambassador Roxane de Bilderling, Canada High Commissioner David Angell, Denmark Ambassador Mette Knudsen, European Union Ambassador Stefano-Antonio Dejak, France Ambassador Remi Marechaux, Germany Ambassador Jutta Frasch, Norway Ambassador Victor Rønneberg, Netherlands Ambassador Frans Makken and Sweden Ambassador Johan Borgstam.
