Speaking on Radio Jambo Saturday, the vocal lawmaker threw his weight behind the duo's national unity campaign, lauding it as the best move against the post-August 8 general elections national challenges.

He said that Kenyans are already ripping the benefits of the unity, noting that it has suddenly boosted the economy and restored peaceful co-existence among Kenyans hailing from the rival political sides.

''I fully support the handshake between the two leaders because it has restored calm in the nation. Their unity has led to a sudden leap of our economy and Kenyans can now unite under the initiative and peacefully go about their daily operations,'' said Ichung'wa.

With a section of Jubilee leaders already up against the move, with a group noting that it has ill motives with regards to the presidential succession plan between Uhuru and his deputy William  Ruto in the coming 2022 general elections, Ichung'wa urged leaders to shelve the 2022 debate and unite under the national cohesion initiative.

''Leaders from both sides must follow their example and rally behind the two leaders as their handshake is good for the entire nation,'' he added.
