President Uhuru Kenyatta's succession politics in 2022 is starting to gain momentum with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's allies keen to support his fifth stab at the Presidency.
In what could be a major blow to Deputy President William Ruto who is seen as a front runner in the succession race, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo has revealed plans to amend the constitution to create a Prime Minister position which may be given to Uhuru after which Raila will take over the Presidency.
Speaking during a fundraiser over the weekend at Kaudho Mixed Secondary School in his Gem constituency, Odhiambo said that Raila's 2022 State House bid is unstoppable.
" We will be talking to everybody in this country including people from Central Province, people from East Province and the Coast to ensure that come 2022 Raila Amollo Odinga will be the President of this Republic of Kenya even if it means that a referendum for Uhuru to be a Prime Minister for Raila to be President will be done," said the lawmaker.
The William Ruto camp has publicly dismissed the idea on the creation of the Prime Minister position.
