Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday during a media briefing, member of the inter-county VMMC tastkforce Dr Charles Okal said the programme will now be integrated in hospitals to provide services to the public.

Okal lauded the Luo community, the largest non-circumcising community in the country, for an impressive response to the male circumcision that has seen slightly over 350 000 eligible men and boys circumcised to reduce their risk of acquiring HIV infection through vaginal sex.

He attributed reaching out to the high number of men to decentralisation of the male circumcision services where they employed different modalities like moon light circumcision.

He further said that the outreach male circumcision services were carried out by trained medical personnel observing all standard operating procedures of carrying out quality surgical operation.

“We did cast our nets wide to enable us capture a number of people that could give us a public health impact on male circumcision,” he said.
