Kilifi gubernatorial candidate Gideon Mung’aro has told residents of the Coastal County to vote out leaders who are not development conscious.
In a veiled attack directed at Governor Amason Kingi the former Parliament deputy Whip said Kilifi lagged behind in development because of poor leadership. He was speaking at Kisurutini ward in Rabai Sub County on Monday where he chaired a leaders’ meeting. The seminar had been convened as part of Jubilee Party’s move to prepare for the August election by discussing campaign initiatives, member recruitment networks and strategies, how to secure votes on polling day as well secure victories in the county where opposition NASA enjoys massive support.Mung’aro (Jubilee Party) will be taking on Kingi (ODM) in the race for the county’s top seat.“Our programme in Jubilee provides in-depth exploration of our people driven type of governance, policy making, bilateral relations, culture and the geographic diversity of our great county of Kilifi,” he said after the meeting.“I urge all leaders to advocate for the election of development oriented aspirants.”He said Kilifi residents stand to benefit more under his administration as governor. The outspoken MP who was elected on an ODM ticket in 2013 (Kilifi North constituency) fell out with ODM in 2016 after which he jumped ship and joined President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party. At the time of his departure he was Parliament’s deputy Whip. He was however, ousted from the position and replaced by Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu who recently trounced Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu during ODM party nominations.
