Kwale governor Salim Mvurya has urged Coast region residents to back President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid during the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking on Saturday during the opening of Mkwakwani (ECDE) in Ukunda, the County Chief observed that the region will gain nothing supporting the opposition, having done that in the past.
"We were in the opposition in 2007, we remained in the opposition in 2013 and we can’t repeat that mistake in 2017. We thought that by being in the opposition we would get development, but we have reaped nothing," he said.
Mvurya was elected on an ODM Party ticket during the 2013 general elections, but has since shifted allegiance to Jubilee Party.
He further urged his constituents to reelect him, citing his developmental track record for the past four and half years.
"My development record speaks for itself. Within the four years of my administration development has been realised in the County," he stated.
Mvurya is facing stiff competition from former Kenya Ambassador to Tanzania and seasoned politician Chirau Ali Mwakwere (Wiper) and ODM's Issa Chipera.
