Lamu Woman Representative Shakilla Abdalla has urged locals to vet aspirants seeking political seats in the August 8 polls before voting for them.She observed that some aspirants eying seats have poor development track records and can’t be trusted with leadership.Addressing women in Lamu town on Tuesday, Shakila said that the county needs development conscious leaders to push development forward.She observed that Lamu continues to lag behind in development because most of the elected leaders have no vision and agenda for the people.“We need visionary leaders who will be able to articulate issues and push development forward,” she said as quoted by the Star.Shakilla said locals have the power to elect leaders who will champion equal development.The Woman Rep at the same time warned locals against receiving handouts from politicians, adding that some political aspirants are dishing out money in the name of wooing for votes.She asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against aspirants engaging in election malpractices.Shakilla who is seeking re-election, asked locals to back her bid, and pledged to continue empowering women, youth and persons living with disabilities.
