Sonko pledged to remove the business permit requirement for hawkers, mama mbogas and other small-scale traders.

“In my first 100 days in office, I will abolish permits for mama mboga and hawkers and also reduce land rates,” the senator said.Critics have however not spared Sonko, saying that his pledges are more populist than realistic.

They say that the city county enjoys a robust power on finances because of the wide taxation and tat if Sonko abolished the rates, there would be no difference between Nairobi and other less urbanised counties.
