Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli has asked Nairobians to elect his 'son' Johnson Sakaja as their next senator.

Speaking at Uhuru Park during the Labour Day celebrations on Monday, Atwoli told Nairobians to exercise democracy in a peaceful manner and find in their hearts reason to vote the nominated MP.

"Here in Nairobi what we want is that if you are a supporter of Kidero, if you are a supporter of Mike Sonko, if you are a supporter of my son Sakaja, we want you to conduct peaceful elections," he said.

He said he was going to cast his vote for Sakaja, and asked those in attendace to make sure they do the same.

"Mimi nawaambia Sakaja amelelewa kwangu pamoja na watoto wangu. Yeye ni kijana wangu. Kwa hivyo, kura yangu moja na hata ya mama yake tutampa. Ni nyinyi watu wa Nairobi nawaomba tafadhali pigieni kijana wangu kura," he said.

This loosely translate to: "I am telling you Sakaja has been raised in my house together with my children. He is my son. Therefore my vote will be cast for him, and so will his mother. And for you Nairobians, I am pleading with you to please vote for him."

Sakaja will be contesting against ODM's Gabriel Bukachi.

He garnered 163,448 votes in the recently-concluded Jubilee primaries, beating his rival Mutinda Kavemba who garnered 33,109 votes.
