[Photo|Joseph O Magwanga]Scrutiny and recount of votes for Homa Bay gubernatorial race was delayed for several hours after differences emerged between lawyers of the petitioners and respondents.High Court Judge Justice Joseph Karanja had ordered for recount and scrutiny of votes in an election petition filed by Oyugi Magwanga against Governor Cyprian Awiti.Magwanga came behind Awiti in the August 2017 elections but accused the governor of rigging. On December 22, 2017, the court directed that the recount should be done on January 8, 2018.On Monday lawyers from the two sides failed to agree on the number of polling stations that the court directed the scrutiny and recount should be conducted.Presided over by Homa Bay Deputy Registrar Lester Simiyu, the exercise was to be conducted in 81 polling stations despite a close to a 6 hour delay. The exercise which was to take place in 81 polling stations, was objected by Magwanga and his running mate Joshua Orero's lawyer Humphrey Obach.According to Obach, the exercise was to take place in more than 400 polling stations, adding that they would move to court on Wednesday to seek further clarification.Governor Awiti and his Deputy Hamilton Orata's legal team led by Steve Biko, supported the recount in 81 polling stations.
