The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission says it expects the number of people registering as voters to rise at the weekend.

IEBC Central Rift regional coordinator David Towett said they expect long queues during the weekend because most people will find time off work to go and register.

Towett attributed the low turnout on week days to most people being occupied at work.

Speaking Thursday morning in a phone interview, the coordinator said they still believe they will register at least 200,000 new voters in Nakuru County by the end of the 30-day exercise.

“Yes, we have a very low turnout of people at the registration centers but one can understand it is because everybody seems to be busy and tied up at work,”he said.

“We expect the numbers to surge during the weekend and as you know Kenyans like the last minute rush way of doing things and therefore we will definitely have more people towards the end of the exercise,” he added.
