West Pokot Senator, Prof John Lonyangapuo, has hit out at both the government and the opposition for failing to address the health crisis as well as the drought situation.
The senator questioned the morality of the leaders in preaching the message of voter registration to dying Kenyans saying it should not be a priority.
"It is absurd to put all your energy in telling Kenyans to go and register with the aim of getting a legitimate government that will take care of the health sector and address development issues in this nation," he told Citizen TV's Power Breakfast Show on Monday.
"The health sector is currently down and instead of addressing it the government and opposition are busy spreading the message of voter registration. It is hypocritical to go and tell sick people to go and register as voters to elect you to leadership," he added.
Lonyangapuo urged the opposition to focus on pressurising the government to solve the doctors' stalemate and famine which are affecting millions of Kenyans.
He also asked the president to urgently address the issues facing Kenyans before seeking for votes from them.
"What the opposition should be capitalising on now is the inability of the Jubilee government to offer a solution to the doctors' strike and the drought which is spreading fast," he said.
"The Jubilee government should, on the other hand, be able to offer solutions to the problems facing Kenyans before telling them to go and register as voters. Give them a reason to want to register and vote you back in August," he added.
