Artists from the Western region in the country will now have a wide range of genres to be awarded for after a leading Entertainment promotions firm announced an addition in award category.
Vybez Awards CEO Aleki Alex said that an addition of other music genres is set to be introduced in this year’s edition of the annual awarding of artists.
Speaking at his Silvercrest office in Kisumu, the Events’ Organiser and Promoter said that Vybez Awards seeks to award artists from the former Nyanza, Western and Rift Valley provinces as well as promoting upcoming artists.
“We have been awarding singers, Disc Jockeys, dancers, poets and models in the past but this year we want to introduce Benga, Ohangla and other traditional music. This will ensure that all our artists are promoted and awarded as they continue with their career,” he said.
He said that local artists such as John Junior, Emmah Jalamo, Onyi Papa Jey, Dola Kabari, Osogo Winyo, and Tony Nyadundo can now be nominated for awards in their respective music category.
Last year’s edition was sponsored by Mobile firm Tecno among other sponsors.
The firm’s CEO said that Tecno Mobile will retain its sponsorship while other new sponsors will also be sought.
The event which takes place annually in Kisumu, will be held in October.
