Speaking after he was sworn in on Monday at the Supreme Court, Wabukala said the fight against corruption can only be won if all departments became committed in rooting out the vice.

The ceremony was attended by among others Chief Justice Justice David Maraga and Attorney General Githu Muigai.

Maraga told the new sheriff to first ensure top notch investigations are done before any case is taken to court.

“I hope that as you take over ICC, you will ensure that investigations are professionally done, and cases that are brought before court, are well investigated, and not those that are designed to save,” Maraga.

The former Anglican Church leader rallied support from involved stakeholders, noting that he couldn’t win the war against corruption on his own.

“I strongly believe that the war against corruption in this country can be won, bring together all sectors including government instructions, the private sector the media, the religious institutions and most important the general public,” said Wabukala.

On the other hand, Attorney General Muigai warned Wabukala of the task that awaits him, saying he will face a stern fight back.

“And there are many veterans here, who have been wounded by the skirmishes of this war because corruption has a way of fighting back, and when it fights back, is more vicious, and those who stand up to tame it must expect to pay the price,” said Muigai

Wabukala will take on the hot seat that is EACC chairman, which has seen many of its past occupants unable to successfully bring culprits to book.
