Retired Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop Eliud Wabukala has defended his nomination for the position of chairperson for Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC).
Speaking on Thursday after appearing before National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee vetting panel, Wabukala dismissed abuse of office allegations by four petitioners against his nomination, vowing to eradicate graft if appointed the EACC Chair.
“I have no government interest. I have never taken a tender in government. I only do a lot of charity work in supporting school-going kids,” Wabukala said.
He also defended his tenure at the Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption, where the petitioners accused him of embezzling funds.
"We had a limited budget to create awareness and education on graft... Once the secretariat stabilises, all plans will be achieved," he said.
"I will ensure action is taken on corruption but politics and tribalism are challenges in the fight against corruption," he adde
