Wabukhala said he was very much focused on religious matters and that he didn't want to be dragged into the political space.

"I am okay with what I am doing now. My role is to pray for the country,"Wabukhala told Citizen Radio on Tuesday.

The clergyman said that he had not been consulted over the issue.

"I am yet to be consulted on this issue by any leader or politician, but my stand is that I am not interested in the job," he added.

This comes barely two days after a section of Jubilee legislators led by Gatundu lawmaker Moses Kuria endorsed Wabukhala for the IEBC top seat.

Speaking in Lugari on Sunday together with other Jubilee MPs including area MP Ayub Savula and Mathare counterpart Stephen Kariuki, Kuria had hinted at vouching to support the man of cloth for the top electoral job.

"The electoral commission boss must be a neural person, exhibit high integrity and be a respectable person. Archbishop Wabukhala is capable of spearheading the commission," said Kuria.

However, Wabukhala says that the next electoral body chairman should be qualified for the job and  be able to manage credible elections, qualities he said he lacked.
