The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) says it's making positive strides towards fighting deep-rooted graft in the country.

EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala has revealed that since he took over leadership in January, the commission has been able to prosecute over 900 people in graft related charges.

Speaking in Eldoret on Friday after meeting EACC officials from the North Rift region, Wabukala further said they have been able to recover and preserve assets worth sh374 million that had been lost through corruption.

“Interms of cash money, we managed to recover sh134 million for the short period of time that I have been in charge of the commission,” said Wabukala.

“As at now, we've about 423 graft related cases that are in court and just recently of the 33 cases we were persuing, suspects in 25 of them were convicted, three acquitted and 6 discharged which is quite a high rate and something that we take positively,” he added.

The EACC boss further revealed that they are investigating graft allegations in 26 counties, and already ten of those devolved units are in court.

He however called for concerted efforts in fight against graft and reaffirmed the commissions commitment to continue enlightening and empowering people as a way of reducing corruption cases.

“Corruption cannot be fought by one people on EACC alone. We need to change this narrative and ask every Kenyan to join this war as it affects all of us,” Wabukala said.
