National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has lashed out at critics questioning the nomination of Wafula Chebukati as the IEBC chair.
According to the Nation, Duale also said those raising concerns that Chebukati hails from the same ethnic community with the electoral body's CEO Ezra Chiloba, should know that both were recruited fairly and transparently.
“CEO Chiloba applied for the job and was recruited in a very fair, transparent, competitive and vigorous process and so is the current nominee for IEBC chair. Those now raising concerns on where they come from are the ones who believe in ethnic politics. Ours is by merit and not where one comes from,” Duale said as quoted by the Nation.
The MP who spoke Sunday in Garissa, confirmed that the National Assembly Speaker will receive the names of IEBC nominees from the President next week, before submitting them to the Justice and Legal Affairs committee for vetting.
If confirmed by Parliament, Chebukati will replace Isaac Hassan as the IEBC chair.
