A case involving two police commanders and imposter Joshua Waiganjo on Tuesday took a new twist after Waiganjo claimed that influential people in government were interfering with the case.
Waiganjo who appeared at a Nakuru court alongside his co-accused; former Rift Valley Provincial Police Commissioner John M’Mbijiwe and former Anti-Stock Theft Unit Commandant Michael Remi Ngugi claimed that the prosecution file was being manipulated.
The man who hit headlines as a police imposter told Senior Principal Magistrate Felix Kombo that former Head of Civil service Francis Kimemia was working closely with former police Commissioner Mathew Iteere and the CID boss Ndegwa Muhoro to fix them.
“Through reliable sources, l have information that Kimemia, Iteere and the CID boss are doctoring the case files. They are determined to have us jailed to shield any leakage of crucial information about happenings in the police service,” Waiganjo told the court.
He disclosed that their file was being manipulated at the CID headquarters and that he feared the trial may be unfair if the three were not stopped from meddling with the case.
Waiganjo added that the government officials were keen to compromise the judicial process in a bid to lock out Justice.
When put to task by the court to substantiate the allegations, Waiganjo promised to disclose the source of the information in camera.
However, the prosecution led by Martin Rabera dismissed the claims insisting that the file alleged to be at the CID Headquarters was in the custody of the prosecution.
“These are mere allegations which he should report afresh to the police who will in turn initiate a fresh probe,” said Rabera.
Waiganjo’s lawyer Simon Kamau urged the court to initiate a probe into the claims to ensure the trial was fair and just.
The court directed Waiganjo to record a statement with the police for fresh investigations into the claims.
