Ruto's speech at Kerugoya was briefly interrupted as rowdy youth chanted 'Waiguru must go', despite calls by the DP for restraint.

"We agreed to have a unified nation not what we hear coming from Kirinyaga. We do not want to hear fracas and insults coming from this county," Ruto calmed the youth, as quoted by Nation.

The Jubilee Deputy Party leader was in the county to commission the upgrading to bitumen standard and maintenance of Njegas-Kangaita and Kiaga-Mukinduri roads.

In a statement seen by Citizen Digital, Waiguru has termed the incident as 'unfortunate and archaic', apologising for the embarrassment the DP was subjected to.

"On behalf of the people of Kirinyaga, I wish to convey my sincere apologies to His Excellency Deputy President William Ruto for the embarrassing incident witnessed on Friday and promise that such scenes will not happen again," she stated.

The county boss accused Women Representative Purity Wangui Ngirici and her husband Andrew Peter Ngirici of hiring goons to cause chaos during the rally.

“A very unfortunate incident was witnessed in Kerugoya; Kirinyaga County during an official visit by His Excellency Deputy President William Ruto on April 6, 2018 where a few goons hired by the County Women Representative Purity Ngirici and Andrew Ngirici , made attempts to disrupt the meeting," Waiguru claimed.

In a quick rejoinder, however, Ngirici has denied the allegations, challenging the governor to present the evidence linking her to the heckling.
