Waiguru underwent the Kikuyu traditional rite where she was clothed with a special attire known as ‘Thitu’ which was worn by selected Kikuyu women leaders.

With the regalia and a shepherd’s staff, the former powerful CS was officially handed the leadership of the county and given the nod to start off her campaigns.

The elaborate traditional ceremony held a Kutus Town was led by elder Benson Njege who said elders blessed Waiguru and gave her the nod to kick off her campaigns.

"We as elders of 'Kiama kia ma' has today bestowed our daughter as a Kikuyu leader. Now she has our blessings as she marks the start of her journey of becoming our governor, " said Njege.

Speaking to journalists, Waiguru said she was elated by the elders’ action and described the ceremony as “very important” as it will prepare her to face her opponents during campaigns ahead of the 2017 General Election.

“I decided to seek the blessings of the elders because I know that it is impossible to succeed in taking over leadership without their blessings. I’m really elated and humbled. I also feel honoured by my fathers," she said.
