Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has asked Auditor General Edward Ouko to conduct a financial audit following reports that Sh1.2 billion cannot be accounted for.
According to Waiguru’s office, the monies was either siphoned a few days after Jubilee Party nominations or paid out to fictitious companies associated with senior administrators.
"I would like your office to an carry urgent and special audit on the financial status of the county of Kirinyaga. Pay attention to finances and human resources committee," reads part of her letter Ouko.
The letter seen by The Star is dated August 28.
Ouko’s office has been asked to probe commitments for the last eight months.
Waiguru took office after defeating incumbent Joseph Ndathi.
Waiguru told Ouko to ensure the audit is finalized in 21 days.
