A new survey conducted by research firm TIFA has suggested that Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful on Jubilee Party Anne Waiguru would beat her closest challenger of Narc Kenya Martha Karua should the August elections have been held today.

In the poll released on Thursday, Waiguru has a 55 per cent approval rating compared to Karua's 35 per cent.

The poll linked Waiguru's higher rating to Jubilee Party on whose ticket she is vying.

The party is enjoying massive support in Kirinyaga and the larger Mt Kenya region, with an approval rating of about 95 per cent.

The incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi has a paltry three per cent support.

He is defending his seat as an independent candidate after he lost the Jubilee Party ticket to Waiguru during the Party primaries conducted in April.

In Nairobi county, the poll indicated that the race was too close to call, with the two top contenders (Senator Mike Sonko of Jubilee and governor Evans Kidero of ODM) tying at 44 per cent.
