Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru claims that the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on the NYS scam was fabricated to serve the interests of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Waiguru, a Kirinyaga governor candidate, said that the National Super Alliance (Nasa) members in the watchdog committee forced the recommendations against her to frustrate the defamation suit she filed in 2015 against Mr Odinga.
“It was convenient for the members of NASA coalition in PAC to align their recommendations with Raila’s petition to gain favour from the ODM leader and endorsements in their respective political races,” Waiguru said during an interview with Citizen TV.
She added, “If you look at proceedings in court, you will notice that Raila is making incessant attempts to have the case terminated so that he will not have to come and answer questions on what evidence he has to back his defamatory claims.”
The former CS claimed that the Nicholas Gumbo-led committee was simply carryng out a political witch hunt against her.
Waiguru said that even after interrogating 47 witnesses and holding 50 sessions, the committee could not find a shred of evidence that linked her to the loss of public money at the NYS.
The taxpayer lost at least Sh1.6 billion in the scam.
Waiguru, during the interview, claimed that Sh791 million had been recovered by the Asset Recovery Agency.
She said that the only thing that will save Odinga from coming to the dock and saying why he defamed me is if he becomes president, “which he will not. I know that because the numbers tell us so.”
