Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi claims that former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru’s candidature for the governor seat is a plan to ensure he is not re-elected in 2017.
Ndathi claims that his rivals know that Gichugu is his political stronghold and that is why they have prevailed upon Waiguru to oppose him to deny him getting all the votes from his home turf.
"My enemies from a certain area in the region have fronted her to oppose me. They are not happy with me being a governor and want to spoil my chances of being elected for a second term by splitting my Gichugu votes," said Ndathi.
The former CS entry has complicated matters for the incumbent Ndathi. Both come from Gichugu, a bloc that the governor was counting on to retain his seat.
Waiguru also comes from Ngariama ward, the biggest in the constituency, which is traditionally very loyal to its leaders.
Speaking on Saturday when presenting beehives to Kimunye Unity Self-help Group in Kimunye village, the County boss urged voters in Gichugu to refuse to be divided.
"These enemies want us to contest this seat because we are from the same home turf so that Gichugu can lose the gubernatorial seat," he added.
