From illicit brews to politics, the county is one that never keeps away from the media for both good and bad reasons.

And just days after former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru was coronated as a county leader, a section of leaders feel the blessings are null since they did not perform the ritual.

The elders have strongly condemned the endorsement saying it was done without their knowledge and that the elders who carried out the ceremony are not members of the Kikuyu Council of Elders.

Cyrus Githaka who chairs the council now wants Waiguru to visit them to formally receive the council’s blessing. This is as she plans to vie for the governor’s seat.

“We usually do these blessings at Riagitugu. The elders slaughter a goat and sheep. If the ceremony was done in a different manner, we say that it was an individual thing. We were not involved in any way,” said Githaka as quoted by Citizen Digital.

In an elaborate ceremony held in Kutus town on Friday, Benson Njege led a section of elders in blessing Waiguru where they declared their support for the former CS.

Waiguru said that she was overjoyed by the elders’ action and that their endorsement was important to her.

Waiguru underwent the Kikuyu traditional rite where she was dressed in “Thitu”, a special cloth reserved for selected Kikuyu women leaders.
