Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary and Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful Ann Waiguru has told Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua to quit active politics.
The two are eyeing the County’s top elective seats.
Waiguru, who will be vying on a Jubilee Party ticket, said Karua has served Guchugu residents “enough” and it was time to bow out.
"Leading Gichugu as its MP for 20 uninterrupted years and having been the minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs during President Kibaki’s tenure, was no mean achievement and time is now ripe for her to retire," Waiguru said on Thursday.
She made the remarks during her Jubilee nomination campaigns at Karua’s backyard, Kimunye village.
The former CS said Kirinyaga County was in dire need of a new crop of leaders for the people to benefit.
Waiguru further accused Karua of fixing President Uhuru Kenyatta at the International Criminal Court (ICC), where he was later acquitted of crimes against humanity charges.
"It is hypocritical for Karua to align herself with the winning Jubilee team whose leader is none other than the one she wanted jailed over alleged crimes against humanity," she claimed.
Karua recently declared her support for Uhuru’s re-election bid, and has been attending key Jubilee rallies.
The former Justice Minister is yet to respond to the comments by her rival in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race, Waiguru.
