“The Ksh300 million is not enough compared with the number of applicants who seek for the fund. We want the fund to be increased to Ksh1 billion,” said Waikenda.

Speaking in Juja Town during an information programme on youth affairs on Wednesday, Waikenda said that the increment would enable more youth to benefit from the kitty.

He said that the number of applications being received at his office is overwhelming and said that there is need to increase the allocation of the fund.

“We have received over 30,000 applications from the youth, women and people with disabilities,” he said.

Waikenda added that they are in the process of processing the application forms but confirmed that not all the applicants will benefit.

“Those who will not get the cash will have to wait till further funds are available,” said Waikenda.

He said that the trend is encouraging among the youth and urged more of them to apply for the loans to start their enterprises.

“More youth have seen the important of the fund and that's why there is overwhelming applicants,” said Waikenda.

He noted that the fund has attracted young women and people with disabilities who have started income-generating projects.
