Kiambu County Youth Affairs CEC Machel Waikenda failed to appear before the county finance committee on Tuesday over an alleged Sh126 million missing from the youth (Biashara) fund.
Waikenda and Marie Mugo his deputy were expected in the county chambers on Tuesday but through a letter which to the chambers on Tuesday through one of their clerks, the two indicated that they needed more time before issuing any comments before the house.
“Unfortunately we will not be able to appear before the committee on May 3 as the matter requires additional time to review and prepare before responding to the issues rose through submissions from members of the county assembly. This is to request you to reschedule another date to appear before the committee,” read the statement.
The grilling of the two comes two days after Ngewa ward MCA Karungo wa Thang’wa questioned the two over the missing funds and directed through the help of house speaker, the county finance committee to scrutinize the matter and report findings by Monday next week.
It is still not known whether the funds were lost in dubious activities as efforts by journalists to reach the two went unanswered.
Journalists spent hours waiting for the two at the chamber for questioning in futility.
