Kiambu county Sports and Youth Affairs CeC Michael Waikenda has called on parents to support young talents but providing them with resources to perfect their career.

Waikenda said that many children lose sports interest due to parents failing to support them not only in terms of monetary and facilities required but psychological support.

He said that a little psychological support and encouragement will move a mountain for the young ones to hear from their parents’ mouth.

The CeC who was speaking on Sunday in Kiganjo estate in Thika township ward expressed his frustrations with absentee parents who abandon their children and allow them to indulge in heinous activity.

He said that drugs abuse and crime has been on rampant in the region due to young one being subjected into the act by their peers without their parents knowing.

He condemned Kiganjo residents for not decrying criminal activity to the county government yet they are most in absenter of their childrens lives.

Waikenda advocated the family members to be offering psychological support to the children to join sports activity to minimize crime in the county.

He said that the county government is establishing many programs to counter drag abuse and sports program the county government has invested much to allow equal opportunity to the residents.

The sports minister as further extended his gratitude to the county governor William Kabogo for consistence support in sports urging residents not to be influenced by malicious leaders who seek political mileage.
