Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina has launched a programme to clean area's largest market, Madaraka.

Popularly known as 'Wa Jungle', the MP moved in after traders in the market situated at Makongeni area called out for his help.

The business community and their customers have been complaining of increase in mosquitoes, flies and rats which have invaded the market.

They said the situation was endangering their lives as it could lead to outbreak of diseases.

"The refurbishment of the toilet block will be completed in two weeks," Wainaina said when he toured the market accompanied by area MCA Raphael Chege on Saturday.

"Garbage will be cleared and bins brought to curb dumping. We will also unclog blocked pipes," the first-time lawmaker pledged.
