Newly appointed Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Managing Director Catherine Wairi has promised to make the facility better by transforming it into a global brand.
Ms Mturi who was appointed a fortnight ago as the first female KPA boss, said she has what it takes to convert the organisation into an international communication and logistics hub.
Speaking during the review of the Mombasa Port Community Charter on Wednesday, Wairi acknowledged the government for believing in her.
"I want to say thank you to the government for having faith in me as the port managing director. It is quite an honor and very humbling that today there is a woman sitting at the helm of the Port of Mombasa," said Mturi.
She urged everyone to take ownership of the port, saying that the facility doesn't belong to the residents of Mombasa alone.
Wairi, who has worked at the organisation for 23 years, was appointed Acting Managing Director at the facility in January, after her predecessor was forced fired, a position she held for six months before being confirmed as the new MD two weeks ago.
