Kiambu governor, Ferdinand Waititu on Sunday faced an angry crowd of Kukuyu business community who accused the governor of meddling with the election of members of liquor boards for three sub-counties.
Mr. Waititu had gone to Kikuyu to supervise the election when he met a hostile reception of bar owners who claimed he wanted to influence the membership of the board.
According to the bar owners, the county government seems to be having a vested interested in the county's liquor business.
"We feel the fresh vetting is not fair, especially because the county government has a vested interest," claimed James Mwaura.a local.
According to Mr. Mwaura, the county government had its own preferred members whom it wanted to be elected. He sees that the county wanted to achieve this motive through MCAs who were to be the returning officers in the election.
Another businessman, Richard Wainaina, claimed that both the liquor board and fresh vetting of bars were illegal given that the Alcoholic Drinks Control Act was yet to be gazetted.
"The liquor boards is illegal. Fresh vetting of bars is also illegal because the recently passed Kiambu Alcoholic Drinks Control Act has not yet been gazetted," said Mr. Wainaina.
Mr. Waititu has faced great opposition from Kiambu business community particularly bar owners who claim that the governor is fighting against the very genuine businesses in the country by the introduction of the stringent law.
However, the bar owners promised to resort to legal actions in order to fight the law.
