Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has now threatened to sack all corrupt revenue officers who don’t issue official receipt to traders while collecting levies thereby denying the county revenues.
According to Waititu, the county has been losing millions of shillings per month due to the corrupt officials whom he warned that their time is over and soon they will all be sacked and replaced with other officials.
Speaking at Githurai market on Tuesday, the governor decried that the county has for the last few months failed to reach its revenue targets despite the fact that traders have been paying taxes without fail.
"The County of Kiambu has been lagging behind in revenue collection simply because a section of dishonest county revenue officials have been issuing either fake or no receipts. We have already begun investigations to ensure that they are arrested and arraigned in court," said Waititu.
Waititu admitted that failure to meet revenue collection targets has affected service delivery in the county and called upon locals to be patient as the situation will soon improve.
"We are currently improving our revenue collection process and we are urging all locals to ensure that they report any corrupt officials to us" said Waititu
