Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has announced plans to merge all the 8 companies that supply water to the county residents.
Speaking on Kameme FM on Monday, Waititu said that the merging of the companies into one will enhance efficiency and reduce the operational costs.
The governor also said that the mega-company will have a big bargaining power to enable it negotiate with other water companies in the region.
"Let those opposed to the merger know that we have considered this matter again and again and we are totally convinced that this is the right way to go," Waititu said.
He added: "When we have all the 8 Kiambu water companies under one roof, residents will benefit more because even the cost of water will go down. We are going to have a very big ceremony next week where we shall announce the official merger."
He noted that the current 8 companies lack coordination, operate at a high cost and do not deliver quality services to the respective residents that they serve.
Waititu also called on those running communal water projects to bring them on board saying that the big company will be able to manage those projects efficiently as it will have the requisite financial muscle.
