Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu has banned uprooting of coffee by investors to construct houses.
Waititu said the crop previously had good returns but real estate has been a barrier for the growth of coffee farming in Kiambu.
The governor called on investors to invest in other areas without encroaching on coffee-growing areas.
“Investors are welcome to invest in Kiambu but they should invest in areas without coffee. My administration will not allow uprooting of coffee.
"Officers from the Agricultural department should take a legal action against anyone found uprooting coffee,” Waititu told a local vernacular station on Monday.
The governor said investors buying coffee farms should continue with coffee business and not uproot the crop for construction of houses.
