Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu is under pressure after bar owners in the region accused him for pushing them to apply for licenses before they are allowed to operate their businesses.
The bar owners led by Kiambu Liquor Association Chairman Richard Kagiri on Monday speaking in Kiambu Town said they will not adhere to the new law that was passed by the county MCAs.
"Traders have been operating bar businesses legitimately. Waititu and his new laws should know traders will not follow the law. Alcoholic drinks sellers will not apply for licenses," said Kagiri.
He accused the MCAs for failing to involve the trader before they passed the law.
"Waititu and the MCAs failed to involve us before they passed the Alcohol Bill. All our members sell approved beer and therefore, there will be no need for the traders to apply for licenses again ," he said.
Kagiri said locals will have a say on the kind of bars which will be allowed to operate in their areas adding that locals will regulate the bars operating in their areas to ensure no trader operates illegally.
This comes after Waititu last week maintained that war on illicit liquor will go on and illicit brew traders must apply for licenses afresh.
