Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu believes he was robbed of his victory as the Nairobi governor.

Waititu now wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct fresh gubernatorial elections in Nairobi County following allegations that one of the Supreme Judges who heard his election petition in 2013 allegedly received a bribe from Governor Evans Kidero.

Speaking at Kabete Town on Thursday, Waititu said, “The only thing is for the IEBC to call for fresh gubernatorial elections basing on the bribery allegations against Tunoi and Kidero,” he said.

The MP said that the truth about the election is coming out insisting that he won the election despite the courts throwing out his petition that challenged the election of Kidero.

He asked Governor Kidero to step down since he has been implicated in bribery claims in relation to the 2013 election.

The MP also called for the removal of Tunoi from the judiciary over allegations that he received Sh200 million from Kidero to influence the outcome of the election petition.

Waititu said that allegations that judge Tunoi was bribed in the election petition show that the judiciary lacks transparency and integrity.

On Monday Chief Justice (CJ) Willy Mutunga said that he had received a sworn affidavit from Geoffrey Kiplagat, a former journalist, who claims that judge Tunoi was bribed with Sh200 million.

On Wednesday after convening a Judicial Service Commission (JSC) meeting, Mutunga said that the commission had appointed a six member committee to investigate the bribery allegations levelled against judge Tunoi.

The team, according to Mutunga, will file its report in a week’s time.

Judge Tunoi has denied the allegations saying that he has never met Governor Kidero.

In a live interview on KTN on Tuesday, Tunoi blamed succession wars for the tribulations he is facing.

Kidero has also denied ever meeting judge Tunoi and the said journalist.
