Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has said that he will not succumb to threats from illicit brew traders to change his mind over the war against illicit liquor in the county.
Waititu said protests being planned by bar owners and liquor manufacturers against his decision to end illicit brews in the region will not succeed.
"No protests from traders will make me backtrack on my decision. Bar owners should apply for business permits afresh to be allowed to continue operating their businesses," Waititu said.
Waititu said currently no bar in the region has a valid license as they were all rendered 'useless' after the passing of the new alcohol law last week.
"Bar owners should apply for licenses afresh failure to which they will be closed down. No bar will operate on the county and if residents will say they don't need bars we will have no problem," he added.
He noted that illicit liquor has left several people dead in the county saying he doesn't want more deaths and that people must remain safe all times.
Waititu was speaking in Gatundu North on Monday where he urged residents to help the county government fight illicit brews.
