Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has put on notice locals re-introducing and enaging in illicit liquor business.

Speaking to journalists  in Kiambu Town on Wednesday , Waititu said that anyone found making or selling illicit liquor and second generation alcoholic drinks will be dealt with ruthlessly.

Waititu stated that he will personally lead the crackdown to flush out locals re-introducing brews.

“Anyone engaging in the making and selling of ilclit brew should leave this county before the long arm of the law catches up with him or her,” he said.

The governor stated that his administration will not tolerate the return of brews that he said impact negatively on the development.

Waititu also send a stern warning to police officers and local chiefs allegedly colluding with illicit  brewers, saying that they will face the wrath of the law.

He asked locals to name and shame local administrator's allegedly working with known illicit brew makers and sellers.

The governor also said that county will carry out a thorugh audit of approved alcoholic drinks sellers.

He said that some business people are using their licenses to promote second generation alcoholic drinks.

On Tuesday, the Kiambu County Assembly passed the Alcoholics Drinks Control Amendment Bill that seeks to  regulate  the manufacture and sale of alcoholic drinks.

The Bill also provides guidelines on licensing of brewers and control of illicit brews.

Last week, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i directed county commissioners to spearhead the fight against illicit brews and second generation drinks.

Kiambu is among counties with high cases of illicit brews and alcoholism according to statistic's  by NACADA.

In 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta declared a national crackdown on illicit brewers.

The one month crackdown saw thousand's litres of illicit brews destroyed and suspect's arraigned in various courts across the country.

There have, however,  been reports that the illicit brews are  slowly re-emerging in some parts of the country.
