Limuru transport traders have accused Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu of inciting residents to burn lorries transporting charcoal within her county.
The traders who presented their petition to Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his deputy James Nyoro on Wednesday, demanded for the county’s intervention.
This is after one of their lorries was burned last week within Kitui County while others are still being detained by police after they were allegedly arrested ferrying charcoal and sand from Kitui.
The group demanded for compensation of the truck.
They also called for the immediate release of trucks being detained noting that they had genuine charcoal permits and therefore had committed no offence.
Addressing the transport traders, Waititu and Nyoro promised to take up the matter to the Council of Governors in an attempt to have a long lasting solution.
The Jubilee governor also noted that he will help the owner of the burnt truck to get full compensation.
‘’We also promised to follow up with the Insurance company on behalf of the owner for full compensation’’ said Waititu.
