The Gubernatorial race in Kiambu is gaining momentum as Ferdinand Waititu starts meeting teachers and schools heads hoping to win their support. A source speaking on condition of anonymity said that Waititu is keen to work with teachers and win their collective support for his bid. While teachers are apolitical, they are entitled to their civic right to vote and any candidate attempting to run for office tries his best to win their support. He proposed improved school facilities which he said were largely neglected by the incumbent Governor William Kabogo.
Waititu has also been meeting with various stakeholders and business people in Kiambu a move that is seen not only to solidify his support but also to strategize in the formation of the Kiambu government should he win the elections on 8th of August. Waititu won the Jubilee part's nomination throwing in the incumbent Kabogo into a spin for the scramble to retain his seat. Kabogo has worked hard to build the health facilities in Kiambu with an aim to make Kiambu a medical hub in the country and promote medical tourism in Kiambu.
Unfortunately, his nonchalant attitude, gross underestimation of his opponent, Waititu, and his alleged insulting comments about women made a few years ago has seen the carpet pulled from under his feet throwing him off balance. In an attempt to rebrand himself, Kabogo has shunned his big cars and is working hard trying to connect with common wananchi of Kiambu as seen in his recent campaign tours. Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi enjoys relative popularity as being one of the most instrumental legislators in the senate.
Although Karungo, a sitting MCA in the Kiambu government who is reputed to be the man who has fought Kabogo the fiercest expressed his interests in the senatorial seat, Wamatangi easily won the Jubilee's nomination leaving Karungo flat footed.
