Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has launched a massive NHIF registration campaign targeting over 800,000 Kiambu residents.
Waititu, while launching the campaign on Tuesday, said that they want to have hit the target by November 2018.
Waititu said they have also dispatched a team of 224 Community Health Volunteers with mobile phones in all the 12 sub-counties to assist in ensuring at least every resident has a NHiF medical cover.
"The phones will be used to register members at their places of convenience. My government has set mechanisms to ensure all our hospitals and health facilities are NHiF accredited," Waititu said on Tuesday in Kiambu during the launch.
He said that they will also make mandatory that monies reimbursed by NHiF back to the county hospitals are invested to improve the health sector.
The governor also called upon the corporates to support various development programmes in the area as a way of giving back to society.
Waititu said that companies have corporate social responsibility in the current business world which improves their standing in the communities they operate in.
"I would like to call upon private and individual business sectors to come in and join hands with us in supporting the various initiatives we have that are beneficial to the people of Kiambu," he said.
Waititu was in company of his wife Susan ,his deputy James Nyoro and NHIF county representative Ken Nyabuti.
